The Edublogs Awards 2011 are a go!

The Edublog Awards is a community based incentive started in 2004 in response to community concerns relating to how schools, districts and educational institutions were blocking access of learner and teacher blog sites for educational purposes.  The purpose of the Edublog awards is promote and demonstrate the educational values of these social media.  The best aspects include that it creates a fabulous resource for educators to use for ideas on how social media is used in different contexts, with a range of different learners while creating an invaluable resource of the best-of-the-best on the web!

How To Nominate

To nominate your favorites, we’re following the same approach as the last three years, namely asking you to:

  • Write a post with your nominations for the different categories on your own blog (or a website – anywhere public)
  •  Send us the link to your nomination post via the form at the bottom of the Nominations Page

 

And we’ve made some changes to categories this year such as:

  • Some categories have been combined together (Best ed tech / resource sharing blog and Best educational use of audio / video / visual /podcast)
  • We’ve created two new categories (Best open PD / unconference / webinar series and Best free web tool)
  • Virtual worlds are encouraged to be part of the expanded “social network” category

Here are the categories in full – nominations are open from now until Friday 2 December, and voting will then be up until Tuesday 13 December and the ceremony will be rocking on Wednesday 14 December!

So go nominate your favourite blogs, twitterers, community sites, videos, podcasts and more… for 2011:

How To Nominate

  • Write a post with your nominations on your blog, link to them and link to this site
  • Use the form at the bottom of the Nominations Page to send us a link to your nominations

  1. Do sites have to be open this year again? Last year my site was nominated by a few people, but it was not considered thanks to the fact that it was locked down to avoid spammers. Will I need to open access to http://www.technologyintegrationineducation.com for a few months and risk spammers in case I am nominated. Also what about if my site exists in multiple locations via RSS feed. TIE has over 10000 members from people belonging on Linkedin, Twitter, Ning and other venues.

    • Sites do have to be open, but it looks like your site does have a lot of open resources available to non-logged in users, so it would be fine 🙂

  2. Hi there. We’re a newsletter rather than a blog but we have an open subscription policy and are free. Is there a category for us? Thanks!

    • Would have to see it, but if the content is available on a website of some kind, we imagine it would fit under resource sharing with no problems 🙂

  4. A quickie – there’s a bit of confusion (maybe only me) 😉 – Is it possible to nominate more than ONE in each category?

    Our company run a free print and online educational newsletter through our website. Would this be considered a new blog, or if not a resource sharing blog?

    • Most likely yes to both – as long as started in 2011 for the new blog. Should it be nominated, it will be looked over and then passed on to the shortlist based on how many nominations were made in those categories. Thanks!

  6. Wow, this is a good start into sharing educational blogs and information about different industries in the world. Well, I want to join – but my bad – I haven’t set up well my blog this year. Next year, I hope there is something like this again so that I could set up my blog next year better and try to become part of this great event. Thanks. 🙂

  8. Hello! I was just wondering what happens if you nomintae a blog in the wrong category … will you transfer it to the correct category or does it become null and void.

  9. Hi,

    I think many would agree that blogs thrive on comments and interaction. Perhaps next year it would be a good idea to recognise this with a new category like ‘Best commenter’ or ‘most interactive blog’.
